Whirlwind Weekend

Date night on Friday...love this man.
This weekend was one of those that begins the second your feet touch the ground on Saturday morning. Ruby’s wiener dog race was supposed to commence on Saturday, but the temps were in the forties and chances of rain were high, so it was postponed until Oct. 13.

Saturday, our Hogs finally won another game! It was a blessed relief from our seemingly never-ending losing streak. Hopefully we can pull out another "W" season. #fingerscrossed

We headed to Tulsa Saturday afternoon for the wedding of Melissa and Ben, two of our dearest friends. It was held at Harwelden Mansion, which is this gorgeous estate. The ceremony portion of the wedding was held outside, so we were a little lot chilly, but it was absolutely beautiful.

Stephen, Me, Melissa and Ben this past summer at Crystal Bridges

We were able to visit with so many of our friends, celebrate with a few fun beverages and dance the night away. Such a fun way to spend a Saturday!

This was the back of the party invitation that Sarah sent out...presh. This boy is presh.

Sunday morning we headed back up to Northwest Arkansas for Reed’s birthday. Reed belongs to Stephen’s oldest sister Sarah and her husband Zach, and is the little bro to four-year-old Ava, their youngest child. Reed turned one and of course we wanted to be there to celebrate with our fam.

This cutie patootie loved his “smash” cake! Makes me kinda have a hankering for a little one : )

Last night, we came home and planted ourselves on the sofa and indulged in some NFL goodness. I love October during football season because all the big, tough guys wear pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness. I think it’s very endearing.

Such a whirlwind of two days, but we are constantly reminded of the reasons we’re so busy – our family and friends. And for them, we are constantly grateful.

Finally, if you have time today, please say a prayer for the family and friends of local news anchor, Matt Turner, who passed away Saturday evening in a car accident. Please lift up his sweet wife Julee and baby girl Preslee, and the family that surrounds them.

A silent auction has been set up for them here.

You can also send donations to Julee, which will likely go toward little Preslee’s college fund.

Confessional Friday: {Link-Up}

1.     I confess that this will be a very short confession because I have a real job. And that real job is requiring work this morning.

2.     I confess that Ruby is competing in the NWA Wiener Dog Races tomorrow. Usain Bolt, watch your back. There’s a new runner on the verge of great things.

3.     I confess that I watched approximately 20 minutes of the Presidential Debate before I turned it off in favor of Breaking Bad.

4.     I confess that I have started watching QVC in the mornings when I get ready because it keeps Ruby quiet. That network mesmerizes her and puts her in this doggy retail trance.

5.     I confess it’s going to be in the 50’s this weekend here and we have to go to a dadgum wedding in Tulsa. I wanted to spend my first cold weekend curled up on the couch. Would you like to hear me play my tiny violin?

Featured in Citiscapes Magazine!

Hi, girls! Things are super busy this morning, but I did want to let everyone know how thrilled I am to be a contributor in this month's Citiscapes Magazine! Citiscapes is a Northwest Arkansas mag that covers style, society, entertainment and dining, in addition to pieces on current events.

My segment this month is called "Local Look" and gives a broad spectrum look at shopping locally in Northwest Arkansas, which is quickly becoming a style hub of the Deep South.

A special thanks again to the fabulous Becky Gosnell, Editor at Citiscapes for letting me be a part of this month's issue. If you live in Arkansas, pick up a copy at your local supermarket or subscribe online : )

Thanks for letting me shamelessly self-promote this morning!

And On Monday, They Wept

And by they, I mean Razorback fans.

...................

Happy Monday! (Is there such a thing?)

Let’s try this:

“Not-so-terrible Monday!”

More fitting?

I wish I had a thrilling weekend tale to recount to you all this morning, but I do not. Instead, you’re stuck with this:

  • We watched Anonymous on Saturday night on Dish On-Demand and loved it. To all the former English majors and literature buffs out there – get thee to a dvd player and watch it.

  • I took Ruby to the vet on Saturday morning for her 3rd boosters. A brief 13 minutes (kidd you not) and a mere $89 later, we were on our merry way. Pets eat money. Swear.

  • Yes, I watched the bloody Hogs game. Yeah, we were brutalized yet again. We are AWFUL. AWFUL, I tell you. It ain’t our year and that’s all there is to it. Thank again, Bobby P.

  • On the upside, I hear our basketball team is slated to be quite good. I’ve never been a major b-ball fan, but with football going the way it is, there’s probably no better time to become one.

  • Win or lose, head coach or no head coach – I still love the Hogs. #WPS

  • Did anyone tune into Real Housewives of New Jersey last night? Some of my favorite gems:

On the subject of copycatting:

“You’re wearing my glitter eyeshadow. I wore glitter eyeshadow on last season’s reunion.”  - Teresa to Melissa

On style and appearance:

“I can’t see your face for all your extensions.” – Melissa to Teresa.

“You, in your Christmas pageant dress. Just sit there and shut the (insert curse word) up.” – Caroline ‘Butt-inski’ Manzo

On strange personal endeavors:

“My cannoli kit will be on shelves really soon. Everyone can be a goddess in her kitchen!” – Kathy Wakile
  • Is it just me, or is hocking strange products and concepts the right of passage for all Real Housewives? Remember that “wine of the month” club that Vicki and Tamara from the O.C. started? You know, before they hated each other?? And Alexis Bellino’s “couture” dress line? (P.S. – I wondered if she realized that the very word couture implies “one of a kind”?)

Just some low-carb, trans-fat-free food for thought.
