An Excellent Contractor

Photo by our friend and photographer, Rhyanne Ketron.

Hey, chicas.

Leslie, here.

(Obvi. Who else would be here writing this blog?)

This has been one crazy week that, to be honest, may not lend itself to a terribly large amount of blogging, but that's just how the Funfetti cupcake crumbles sometimes. Work is busy, which is always a good thing. And we're gearing up to welcome little Ruby into our household on Saturday afternoon. (Eeeeep!)

Anywhoodle, thanks to all (978!!) of you who have submitted a survey. This Type-A personality appreciates that very much! Your diligence and follow-through will be handsomely rewarded.

(Just as soon as I win the lotto.)

.........................

Gaw. I was thinking today about the fact that S and I have been married for almost one year. A YEAR. It feels like we've been married for about five minutes. (Well, some days it feels like it has been a bit longer, but you get the picture. Ha!)

Next month, September 17, we'll be celebrating 365 days of being wed. Man and wifey. And I love it.

Someone asked me a couple of days ago if I had "learned" anything. I'm assuming she was referring to  lessons I'd learned since getting "hitched". (LOTS of quotation marks today, apparently. That's what Tuesdays are for, no?)

And, per usual for a writer, it got me to thinking...

1. I've learned that sometimes it's better to wave the white flag and just admit you were wrong. The argument won't stop until someone does and, since we're both bull-headed, we have to take turns.

2. I've learned that sometimes people don't start snoring until after you're well into a year of marriage. Surprise! (I'm sorry honey. I just had to.)

3. I've learned that, although she is really fabulous, Ina Garten's recipes are never something that can be "whipped up" after a long day of work in hopes of surprising one's husband with one's mad cooking skillz.

And really, who keeps organic white truffle oil in her pantry anyway?

4. I've learned that #3 usually leads to an emergency call to Pizza Hut. Program the number into the phone and memorize it just to be thorough.

5. I've learned that he will make you SO MAD.

6. But he will also make you SO HAPPY.

7. I've learned that after a couple of babysitting experiences together, we should probably stick to dogs for a few more years. (We love our niece and nephews, but MY WORD. Stamina, those children have!)

8. I've learned that the "I'll have the cleanest house on the block" mentality (that I had going into our co-habitation) was for the birds. Clean as you go. Do the best ya can. But don't kill yourself because there's spaghetti sauce stuck in the grout. It's not going anywhere.

But the fifteen minutes of time you could have spent laughing on the couch together is more precious that any sparkly grout on the plant.

9. I've learned that love really does only grow. Your heart - I'm positive that it enlarges.

10. I've learned that the best abdominal exercises come from laughter. The sort of laughter that occurs  after one of you accidentally uses "lip stain" instead of "chap stick", because the tubes looked the same.  (Shame on you, Burt and your Beeswax.)

(You should have seen the look on my face that night we crawled into bed and I looked over at my manly-man of a husband, only to realize he was wearing my Burt's plumping lip stain. A lovely peachy-pink shade. He'd grabbed the wrong tube in the medicine cabinet. It took me a solid 15 minutes of cry-laughing before I could tell him what he'd done.)

..................................

More than anything though, I've learned that his imperfections are the things that make him the most perfect, (in my eyes, anyway.)

-The little scar above his left eyebrow, the result of crashing through a coffee table as a kiddo. The way it peeks out, just so, from underneath his baseball cap.

(All men should bear such sexy reminders of the past.)

-The way he makes the coffee just a little too strong. (I've grown to love the extra caffeine buzz.)

-The way the always uses the wrong cleaning solution on the granite countertop. (I've learned to love it. I call it the "Stephen Streak".)

-The way he tracks in dirt and grass from outside. It reminds me of my daddy and the farm. Two very good things that make me not mind the mopping one bit.

.......................

I love our cooking messes. I love our Saturday pancake-a-thons.  I love our boating adventures. Our loud and rowdy SEC football-watching...my, how we get carried away.

So, when my friend asked, "What have you learned so far?",  I told her this:

"I've learned that God is an excellent contractor."

She looked at me quizzically.

I continued.

"He's an excellent contractor. Just when you think your heart is so full it can't possibly grow another inch, he expands it. Builds on. Makes room for more."

Be blessed, lovelies-

Answers to Emails + More Pics!

Photos are by my friend Rhyanne Ketron

Blogger was acting up yesterday and so I didn't get to put the remaining 6 photos up. If you aren't sick of seeing us already, take a looksy! If you are, you may want to skim down the page, haha!

And end photos.

M'kay, let me go ahead and put this out there: I am the world’s worst with replying to email. A definite shortcoming as a blogger, that’s for sure. So I’m tackling a few questions today that I’ve received via email in the past few weeks!

If you asked a question and never got an answer (again, so sorry!), yours may be featured:

“Where did you get your yellow shoes from the engagement pics post?”- I got them from Aldo last year for the Celebrate Magazine interview. I love, love, love ‘em, but they are HARD to walk in!

“Where did you get your dress from the engagement post?”- I got it last year from Ruche! I somehow was lucky enough to order the last Small they had in stock. Obviously, the fashion gods were on my side that day ; )

“What kind of cut is your engagement ring?”- Emerald, my fav! I prefer emerald and brilliant cuts for their clean lines and chic look, but I never told S that. Guess he just knew my taste well!

“Does your fiancĂ© have a brother? I’m single!”- I laughed so hard when I got this email! My fiancĂ© has not one, but TWO brothers, in fact! One lives in St. Louis with his lovely wife and brand new baby and the other is engaged to be wed next year : ) Sorry girls!

“Are you using a wedding planner?”- We are actually planning this whole shebang on our own; we are Type A to the max, so planning things is a cinch. We’ve also gotten loads of help from friends (like Rhyanne) and family members in the whole wedding planning process.

“What style is your wedding dress? I’m built like you and was wondering what you think looks best?”- I don’t want to disclose a lot about my dress since S does read this blog : ) But I will say, it’s got a VERY long train, is form-fitting through the torso and hips and is somewhat reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s second dress on her wedding day : ) I’m built very straight up and down with a somewhat petite frame, except for my booty- it’s on the bubbly side, ha! I chose something that wouldn’t overwhelm my body and would allow the curves that I do have to show!

“What kind of highlights does your hairdresser do?”- My hairstylist Jennifer uses a mix of very light baby blonde with a few low lights in a darker, more neutral blonde. We used a picture of Carrie Underwood as inspiration last time, I think. I usually have her do mine in more ash tones, since my hair is naturally pretty red and tends to pull gold if I do warmer tones.

“What kind of hair care products do you use, (Flat iron, curling iron, shampoo, etc.)?”- It takes a small arsenal of hair care supplies to tame my wild strands, haha. Here’s the rundown:

Shampoo- Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo & Rusk Sensory Shampoo for keeping brassiness at bay

Conditioner- Bumble and Bumble Super Rich Conditioner

Hairspray- Redken Forceful 23

Smoothing Serum- CHI brand Smoothing Serum

Flat Iron- CHI, the Original

Curling Iron- Hot Tools Gold 1 ½ inch barreled curling iron

Hope that helps knock out some of the questions y’all have asked lately! Honestly, the best way to connect with me is on Twitter, as it stays up on my desktop at work all throughout my workday. Hit me up and we’ll talk!

Be blessed, lovelies-

More Engagement Pics!

I promised I'd give y'all these in small doses. Well, I may have fibbed. There are so many, it would take 20 posts to show all of them in small increments. So instead, I'll show the pics in one, ginormous post, m'kay?
There were so many that we loved, it was SO hard to choose a favorite. My friend Rhyanne took them for us and we were just so thrilled with the results! I'll let y'all decide which ones you like best!

TIP: Click each photo to see it in its true size and in full detail. This blog doesn't convey the detail that Rhyanne was able to capture with her lense!

Have I ever told y'all how much I love my ring? Probably one or 50 times, I'm sure.

Random disco pose

I know I said we didn't have a favorite, but I think this one might be it : )

Our Lady Gaga hands : ) We love our Gaga!

Um, HOTTIE. I am marrying a hottie.

Ha! Our random "thinker" pose

Showin' off his "guns" : ) (Yes, it's true. Italians really are the sexiest men, in my opinion anyway!)

Going in for the kiss....and...wait for it....

BAM!

We're goofy.

Another potential fav

Be blessed, lovelies-

The Engagement Pics Keep 'A Comin'

via Rhyanne Ketron Photography

As I mentioned last week, my friend…

WAIT! Hold the phone!!
Did y’all know it’s Friday? Because, um, it totally is.

All. Day. Long.

Thank you, sweet Lord.

Anywho, so yeah. Last week, one of my good friends and fellow Bachelorette lovers, Rhyanne, took some engagement pics of S and I. We had such a blast just bee-bopping around Rogers taking randomsauce photos. Stephen even regaled us with his Jason Aldean impression a few times, (he really knows how to entertain the ladies.)

Sewwwwww….it’s time to reveal a few.

She snapped over 500 pics (yowza!) but I know that too much Leslie and Stephen can be draining. In fact, I read somewhere that looking at engagement pictures for extended periods of time can induce nausea, vomiting and disdain for engaged couples.

I love y’all too much to hurt ya, so here are just a few. I’ll post a few more next week and the week after and so on, until you’ve seen all of the blissful, pre-marital photos. I’m sure you’ll await those posts with bated breath.

I've looked at this photo a hundred times and still have no idea what we were cracking up about.

Sidenote: It was in this photos that we realized we have the exact same shade of blue eyes and the same nose. Don't worry, even though it's Arkansas, I assure you were aren't related.

Seriously though, isn’t my girl Rhyanne just so talented?! If you live in or around NWA and need a great, affordable photog to snap some pics of you and your significant other, your kiddos, your pet, your new shoes or just the kitchen sink, hit her up! She’s great at capturing your personal style in pics and will make you look fabulous on camera!

P.S. - THANK YOU to the moon and back for all of the heartfelt, beautiful comments and emails following yesterday’s post! I cannot express how grateful I am to have a platform like this from which to tell my story. I also loved hearing many of your stories and how you handle insecurities and self-confidence issues. You are a truly beautiful, phenomenal group of ladies and I consider myself very blessed to be able to call you friends.

Be blessed, lovelies-
