Trend Watch Wednesday: Jeggings or Leggings?

Happy Trend Watch Wednesday! So glad you stopped by...let's get down to business, shall we?

One word: Jeggings. This "trend" has apparently been around for a while, but has just recently surfaced in Northwest Arkansas, (we're a little behind ok, don't hate, haha). Last week, I was shopping at Francesca's (my fave) at our local outdoor mall when I noticed girl after girl wearing denim leggings. Then, I proceeded to go into Aldo, where I noticed an entire wall display of these acid wash denim tights. Apparently, I have missed the boat on this trend entirely.

Stores like U.K.-based TopShop even have an entire section devoted to the jegging, so obviously someone is buying them.

For only $12 a pop, I considered buying some just for the hey of it. But I honestly haven't decided if I'm repulsed by these or if I dig them. I already LOVE skinny jeans because they work best for my body type....but these bring the "skinny" fit to a whole new level. I mean, there is real potential for a fashion disaster with a trend like this. It could probably be cute paired with a long, tunic-style top and tall boots....or it could send you to the worst dressed list faster than you can say "Tim Gunn".

However, Whitney Port makes them look cute, no?

So I dunno. The jury is still out. For now, I think I'll stick to my good ole standby: black leggings.

Cast your vote now! Jeggings or Leggings?

Tomorrow's Forecast:

I'll be participating in Kelly's Blog Hop "Show Us Your Life"! This will be my first one since the start of 2010!

  1. My sister got a pair of dark denim jeggings and they are sooo cute! She wears them with her boots though... no sneakers. And no acid wash for me either! I'll just stick to my loveable black leggings! :-)

  4. jeggings? You have got to be kidding me! Of course Whitney looks good in them she's a 7 foot tall 100 pound woman! ahh! And acid wash! No thank you! I think it reminds me of stirrup pants without the band around the ankle.

  5. I think the jeggings trend will end soonish... BUT I got a pair of very thin, stretchy jeans from F21 and it gives me that jegging look without going all the way... plus they were only $9.50 so either way it's a win win.

  8. I've just now accepted the leggings trend.. I'm still not sold on the jeggings -- working in retail and seeing them on a variety of body types makes me skeptical.

  9. I am all for jeggings! I just got some from Joe's Jeans. They are super pricey but I won merchandise from them in a model contest otherwise I would never have them. I love tall boots and long shirts and that is basically the only time I wear leggings. With Jeggings combine my love for jeans and leggings perfectly. I never get that bunched up at the knee look I sometimes get with skinny jeans and boots. I ordered them in black but the denim were out of stock. SOLD out!! They must be popular. As long as tall boots continue to be popular-which I think they will-there will always be a need for that skinny down the leg fit.

  11. I say stick w/ the skinny jeans and black leggings! If Whitney's weren't acid washed, they'd be much cuter.

  12. I'm not opposed to "jeggings" on others, but they're not for me. Particularly not in acid wash. I'm of the belief that if you wore the trend the first time around, you're probably too old to wear it when it comes back around. Having rocked the acid washed LA Gear jeans in elementary school, I think I'll pass this go round. I do like the black leggings under long tops/tunics though.

  15. I'm on a fence too - I know I wouldn't wear them (too much junk in my trunk) but they do seem easier to deal with than say super skinny real denim. I'll stick with typical skinny denim and regular stretch pants.

I definitely don't like the acid wash look - I hated it in the 80's and I hate it now.

  17. Hmmm I'd do dark, but me and my thighs could not pull off that Whitney outfit. So sad!

  18. Not a fan. I'll stick with my leggings & skinny jeans.

  19. Hmm, I think I like them because for me I have really athletic legs and it is hard for me to wear skinny jeans. But...I do prefer black leggings and would only wear these with a long shirt or dress on top. I feel self conscious with a short tee and leggings, ha ha. Thanks for this post, I had heard about these jeggings per say and was curious!

  20. If I were to buy "jeggings" they would be denim colored (not acid) and I would use them for boots and Uggs so I wouldn't get that "overstuffed" look. I think they would be fashionable in the punk-rock atmosphere as well, and would look cute with converses.

  21. I got some black denim leggings (brand: American Rag) recently, and they've actually completed my wardrobe. They are the Holy Grail of pants, seriously. I always wished I had a pair of pants that fit like leggings but didn't leave me feeling too exposed (I only feel comfortable wearing leggings with a shirt that extends to my upper thighs, so as to cover my posterior) - and, behold! Denim leggings provided the solution. They fit like a glove and make everything look amazing - fitted shirts, loose shirts, short shirts, long shirts, boots, flats, heels...everything.

I just have to recommend denim leggings that have back pockets - the pockets create an illusion that flatters the physique, thus making the pants more wearable if you aren't stick-thin.

  22. Jeggings don't have to be expensive. contrary to what someone else posted above - mine (brand: American Rag) cost about $30, perhaps less.
