She's Got the Look (Book)

I recently watched an episode of What Not to Wear in which they gave some viewer tips for building a fall/winter wardrobe. One of Stacey London's suggestions was to create a "Look Book" for yourself, which can be used as a reference guide of sorts when you shop.

So what is a Look Book and how to you build one?

A Look Book is basically a glorified scrapbook, but instead of filling it with family photos or cute stickers, you fill it with pics of outfits, accessories, purses or art that inspires you. Maybe you see the cutest pair of tweed trousers when you're flipping through the latest issue of People. Cut it out and add it to your Look Book. (See my digital example below)

Another way to find pieces for your Look Book is to snap photos of outfits you love while you're out shopping. A lot of times, our budgets don't allow us to buy all 20 outfits we like at one time...but it's ok. Just take some pics with your digital camera, print and add to your book so you can remember it next time you go shopping. Remember to write down the store or website where you saw it and make a note of the price. Maybe you can find a knock-off online or find a store that sells it at a reduced price.

After you compile a few pages for your Look Book, you will probably begin to see a pattern and commonality emerge from the things you pick. These don't take alot of time to make and can save you lots of stress when you're shopping (since you already know what you want to look for.)Now go forth and conquer : )

P.S.- Send me a pic of your Look Book and I could feature it in a future post!

  1. Oh that's a really good idea! I think it would make it a lot easier to find things you really like in the stores too!

  2. I used to do this and have the pics on the door of my closet so I could be inspired all the time...I should get back to this and keep ideas right in front of me!
    Thanks for the boost!

  6. i LOVE those boots! I have been on a boot rampage this season- Having only bought one pair last year, I've more than made up for my lack of boots with the THREE pairs I've already bought this Fall!! Love the idea of a look book- will have to try the idea out!

  8. This is fun to do, I think I stress about mine more than I should. I've been keeping a 'huge binder' for about the past 3 years and also look boards, and a look filing box that just tipped over (gggrrrr). I'll take a picture of the book for you! Its not fancy!

  11. I don't think it would be a good idea for me to do a look book. I may find out just how much I lack a fashion sense. Oh wait, for that all I have to do is look in the mirror.
