Snap, Crackle, Pop

The worst thing in the history of the modern world has happened to me...my cell phone has died. Let us all have a moment of silence for this devastating loss... : )

Now when I say "died", I don't mean the battery went dead. I mean it's gone for good. It went to cell phone heaven to be with the other LG's and Nokia's and first generation iPhones.

So I've been without a phone for over 24 hours now! The Horror!!

It all started Sunday night when I was washing dishes in my sink. Now first off, you should know that I NEVER wash dishes by hand. I firmly believe in dumping everything into the dishwasher and pushing the button. But I just got these new bamboo salad tongs and the care instructions on the tag plainly said, "Hand wash only".

So like the good, direction-following girl that I am, I hand-washed the tongs. Meanwhile, my ice cold Diet Dr. Pepper was sitting on the counter that is slightly above my sink. My cell phone was next to the cup of Dr. Pepper. I reached for my drink and accidentally knocked off my cell phone into the sink full of sudsy, hot water. I dropped my cup and, with the reflexes of Jackie Chan, swiftly scooped the phone out of the water. It was literally in there for, I dunno, probably 1 second at the most.

Right after I pulled it out, I heard the sound:

Snap...Crackle...Pop...

So I turned the phone off, took it apart and prayed to the cell phone deities above for mercy on my little pink LG. No luck. After 24 hours of drying, it still doesn't work. I'm told by the good folks at AT & T that it probably won't ever function again.

So today, I have to go get a new phone. Luckily, I'm due for an upgrade and I've had my eye on an iPhone for quite some time. I've heard mixed reviews on the newest iPhones, but I really want one, if for any reason, just to look cooler : )

Do you have an iPhone? If so, would you buy one again? If not, what phone do you use and do you like it?

  2. I'm in love with my blackberry....the calendar feature is bananas, it's literally my lifeline.

My friend and brother in law both have iphones and love them.

    Hope that helps!

  3. Bummer! I know how crippling it can feel to be without your phone! Anyone I know that's had an Iphone really likes it. I have a BB storm and I like it but it isn't without its flaws. Good luck and have fun- getting a new phone is always good times!

  4. i have an iPhone, and truth be told, we have a love/hate relationship. i lurve mine most of the time, but it has it's days. i have to say though, i am jealous of you... i want the new iPhone 3gs so badly, i think i would stab someone in the eye for it. not you of course, cause you're fabulous. anywhozit, that all being said, i sometimes wish i had a blackberry, just to see what all the hype is about, but there's no way i could give up my iPhone completely!

  8. So sad about your cell phone's tragic demise :( But, on the other hand, the iPhone is so amazingly fantastic that you will never want another cell phone ever again! I l.o.v.e. mine!!

  9. My phone went swimming last year... my friend's little girl and I were swimming and I remember looking over at her and my phone was floating next to her. She had grabbed it off my chair and decided it wanted to swim with her. I ran right to the mall to get a new one but for those few hours I felt naked and lost. Right now I have a blackberry and LOVE it.

  10. Yeah for a new phone! But, I've heard that if you put a phone that has fallen in water in the freezer that it will work again, although I have no proof that it would work!

  12. RIP phone...

I've yet to jump on the phone-that-acts-like-a-computer bandwagon myself. As long as it does the basics - call/text - I'm good.

  13. I phone, all the way. I pretty much have no need for social interaction whatsoever after buying mine. I've had it for about a year (3G version) and have never had any major problems. It does drop voicemails every once in awhile, but I'm notoriously bad about calling people back so at least it gives me a good excuse.
