The Scoop on Baby S

Wow, wow, wow! You ladies blew me away with all of your sweet words here on the blog, Twitter, Instagram and through emails regarding yesterday’s news. I am beyond blessed, not only with this baby, but blessed with your friendship and support. I truly, genuinely do appreciate each of you. Please know that.

We are excited, overjoyed, anxious, over the moon, a teeny bit scared (that's okay to admit, right?), but most of all, thankful for this amazing blessing. From the moment I saw that tiny little person on the ultrasound screen, my heart grew tenfold. I cannot imagine being happier than this. I might just burst, y'all.

This pic was taken last Sunday, so it's the most recent. As you can see...not much to show off just yet, ha!

I got a lot of questions via Twitter and Facebook yesterday on how I’m feeling, if we’ll find out the sex, etc., so I thought I’d do a massive Q & A post today. I apologize in advance…this will probably bore some of y’all to tears! (It would have bored me terribly before this little adventure called pregnancy.)

But, I want to document and remember every moment of this pregnancy. This is essentially my journal/scrapbook, so bear with me...I promise this won't be an everyday occurrence.

When did you find out about Baby S?
February 12! I never had any symptoms at first, I just had a gut feeling I was pregnant. In fact, I was only four weeks when we found out. I’ve heard a lot of women say they just “knew” they needed to go get a test. And apparently, I can put myself into that same category.

I went to the store to buy a test and got so flustered that, instead of picking up a pregnancy test, I bought an ovulation kit! Ha! It was 5:00 p.m. and I ALWAYS see someone I know in our little Neighborhood Market if I go at that time, so I was trying to get in and out unnoticed. So, I called Stephen to tell him my mix-up and he (very sweetly) offered to stop by the store on the way home from his office. (I married a GOOD guy.) I took the test as soon as he got home and…voila! Baby S was discovered : )

We hooped and hollered and hugged and kissed with happy tears in our eyes. It was a great day.

How have you felt so far?
Downright miserable, ha! I was actually diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum at around six weeks. This is a fancy way of saying, "I’ve spent a good portion of my day for the past several weeks yacking." It’s been just LOVELY.

Thanks to Zofran, (and the fact that I’m almost out of the first trimester), it does seem to be getting a bit better. I'm still get sick a couple of times a day and honestly, may for the remainder of the pregnancy. But hey, I'll take twice a day over 10 times a day.

That being said, I also have even more sympathy for poor Kate Middleton and her bout with HG. I cannot fathom dealing with that awful, round-the-clock sickness AND harassment by the media at the same time. Bless her.

Will you find out the gender?
Yes! We can’t wait! Just a few more weeks – woohoo! Although I think it would be so much fun to be surprised, the Type A planner in me yearns to know the gender. Plus, I want to be able to decorate and shop accordingly : )

Do you have a gut feeling on the gender?
I have a feeling it’s a boy, but Stephen says girl : ) We shall see! I can think of so many fun qualities about each gender, so I can honestly say that I do not care! A healthy baby. That’s what we want.

Anything but food, haha! I’ve been so sick, absolutely nothing has sounded appetizing. Except for Zofran. I love some Zofran.

For the record though, Stephen has been amazing. Every day, he would put crackers and ginger ale on the nightstand so that when I woke up, I’d have something to soothe my tummy before getting out of bed. On the rare occasion I have craved a certain something, he will, quite literally, drive across town to pick it up.

I will say, I've been enjoying savory, salty foods FAR more than sweet. Right now, anything sugary or sweet turns my stomach upside down. Also dairy...blech! Can't do it at the moment.

Weight gain/loss?
Loss, but I’m trying very hard to get back up to pre-pregnancy weight. I think now that the nausea is somewhat under control, it will happen fairly soon. It’s worth noting though, as a lifetime member of the IBT (Itty Bitty Youknowwhat) Club, I am enjoying my new “assets”. Oh my, how the girls have grown.

Favorite moment so far?
It’s been a toss up between hearing the heartbeat and seeing Little Bit on the ultrasound this past Monday. Legs were kicking, heart was fluttering away and the bebe was sucking his/her thumb. It was a GOOD day. One of the best of my entire life.

Strangest comment from someone so far?
I actually had someone we know ask me a couple weeks ago if we were "trying" or if baby was an accident. Ummmm?? Why on earth would you ask someone that??!! For the record, yes - this child was intentional, ha! But GAW, y'all! So awkward!

Funniest moment so far?
Not really a moment, but it's been almost comical to see my hormones take over my body. Seriously you guys, I can go from zero to emo at the drop of a hat.

Until tomorrow, ciao bunnies!

P.S. - Totally unrelated to baby, but you girls can now get 15% OFF at Maude Boutique online with the code AMBITION. That's pretty darn amazing! I swear, my sponsors are crazy generous. Get to shopping, ladies!

  1. Zero to Emo.....new band name ;)!

  2. EEEEEK! I am seriously going to be checking over here ALL THE TIME for baby updates. I just cannot believe it...I am so excited for you. That's gonna be one beautiful baby :)

  3. Ahhhh so exciting!!! Congratulations!!!!

  4. Oh my gosh congrats!!! I'm holding my napping 4 month old right now and can tell you that the love you will feel for that little blessing will fill you with an unexplainable joy!

I had horrible morning sickness and the only thing that got me through the first trimester was a loving husband, zofran, and pepper mints. It's all a distant memory now though and I would do it again (God willing ;) in a heartbeat!

  5. I don't know if this will help you but you could always try the candy Lemonheads for the sickness. My sister had sickness well until her 7th month and that was the only thing that kept it remotely away.

  6. Oh my dear goodness, what a special time for you guys! And what a selfless, kind hubby you have! So fun to hear your excitement and share in more fun baby news! Hope you start feeling much better!

  7. I was so excited about your baby news! Weird huh since I don't even know you in real life, but that's the great thing about the blogging community. I enjoy posts like these! Keep them coming. Congrats!

  8. What exciting news!!! I hope you start feeling better soon. Isn't it amazing just how tired you are...

Can't wait to hear whether it's a boy or girl!

  9. A little one that's half you and half your sweet hubby?! That's going to be one great looking, sweetheart of a kid! Congrats, Leslie! I know you must be over the moon!! :)

  10. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I feel like I know you since I have been reading your blog for so long and I am just thrilled for your news! Hate you've been feeling sick-- my bet's on peanut being a GIRL. Please continue to post about the pregnancy and baby. Sending you lots of sweet wishes!

  11. Oh you poor thing! I was super sick with my twins, throwing up 10 times in a row sometimes! I had a hard time with the side effects of Zofran, if you know what I mean...ahem. It's so exciting!

  12. Hehehe..love this. So happy for this journey for you :)

  13. Congratulations, this is very exciting news! I missed your post yesterday! Can't wait to see more bump updates!!!!

  14. Zofran was my best friend. And unfortunately I was sick a full 9 months including the delivery room, although I'm sure that's the last thing you want to hear right now :(
But I feel like a pro at throwing up so here are my tips. Keep plastic bags everywhere: car, next to the toilet, etc. also keep washcloths around to grab easily. People will give you all sorts of adviceand food suggestions on what "cures" morning sickness. It's bullshit. Find what works for you. Or at least what doesn't taste gross coming back up. For me, it was easy mac, and honey wheat pretzels.
But it DOES get better. And much more manageable.

  15. Congratulations!! I haven't checked in here for a while and I'm so glad I came by today. Such exciting news and good luck.

  16. I do not enjoy being pregnant, and i'm on my 3rd, but I will say having the "girls" get a bit bigger, is one of my favorite parts- ha! Hope you feel better soon :)

  17. SO happy for you guys! I would have totally picked up the wrong thing from the store, too...haha.. So funny. My friends have shown me that you indeed get the most AWKWARD and inappropriate comments when pregnant. My friend is having twins and gets asked some very interesting questions. One downright asked her if they were IVF babies. Like just asked her to her face. A STRANGER. *le sigh* Eh well. You look beautiful in all the photos I've seen on here and instagram, so you definitely don't look like you've been yacking all day (you poor thing!). Since you've been so sick, my bet is on girl. All my friends who have been really sick have had girls. I think it's b/c us ladies are high maintenance from the get go...haha... ;) Keep the updates coming, friend. I'm absolutely thrilled for you. :)

  18. I am thrilled to hear about your growing family. I cannot wait to see more posts about it and of course see how you style your baby bump. Congratulations!

  19. Congrats!! I would be totally okay if your blog turned into a baby blog! Hahahaha! I am currently expecting my first baby
    Due in September!

  20. Many many congrats to you and the hubby! So pleased for you both... looking forward to hearing everything on the blog! xxx

  21. Congrats!! No matter the gender, that will be one stylish little bean.

  22. Pregnancy is so crazy, but such a blessing! I hope you start to feel better soon. The second trimester really is the best...it was like all of a sudden I felt more like myself. Wishing you the best and praying for you and baby S!

  23. Congrats lady, you are going to be a beautiful preggo girl! :)Hope your morning sickness (or all day sickness) gets better soon. Glad you have some meds to help! Yaaaay so happy for you. :)

  24. I have to admit that I asked another blogger on here if they were trying or not... (via email not on her wall lol I was curious seeing how they had been married a certain amount of time...I didn't think it was weird or awkward but just making conversation ;-) Congrats to you and your hubby and baby to be! Exciting times! :)

  25. I'm a little late to this news but am SO INCREDIBLY happy for you both! Congratulations!!!!!!!!

  26. As someone who is also experiencing the hyperemesis gravidarum and (and I am due 1 week before you) I can tell you that vitamin B6 has worked absolute wonders for me. The Zofran is definitely my friend as well, but that B6 is like a little miracle.
This is our 2nd child and while it was not planned, it was not an accident. I think people are thinking in their head more of the word "surprise", since that is definitely what it is!!!
Congrats and good luck on your first!

  27. so sorry to hear you have been so sick! I am 23 weeks and have been sick since week 7 and on Zofran since week 10. After losing 10 lbs (I am 5 feet tall so it was a lot) and throwing up 6-7 times a day, I threw in the towel. Most women the sickness stops at 12 weeks or 18 weeks when the progesterone slows down but for us ladies with HG.. not the case. But I can tell you that it does get easier when you figure out a dosage that works for you! I am loving pregnancy despite being so sick!

What'cha got?
