Well-Concealed

Before I had Caroline, I had one teeny little tube of concealer in my make-up bag, (all the mommas are now chuckling and nodding their heads.)

During those first few days we had her home, I realized that I needed a dadgum arsenal of concealers – concealers to hide the evidence of those 5:00 a.m. feeding sessions, when little bit loved to party.

Ignore gigantic, ridiculous selfie from this morning...I needed a pic and sadly, Caroline can't operate our DSLR yet ; )

Now that she’s sleeping like a good four-month-old should, my concealer is simply what I use as quick fix when I’m short on time for applying all-over makeup.

I wrote about the bareMinerals Well-Rested Eye Brightener in this post, but lately, I’m loving NYX Concealer in a Jar ($4.99 from Ulta). I can pop a little smudge under each eye, dust on a little Ben Nye Banana Powder and then get on with my day. (I wear the 'Yellow' shade.)
I’m also a big fan of Smashbox High Definition Concealer, if I'm looking for something during the humid months.

To be fair, I’ve heard unbelievable things about Yves SaintLaurent Touche Eclat, but I just can’t fathom spending almost $50 on concealer (oh yes, 5-0). For $50, it ought to include the professional make-up fairy to come and apply it each morning. But, hey, if Caroline ever goes into the dreaded sleep regression, I may just buy a little tube of the stuff.
Desperate times and desperate measures and so forth…

I apply in the boomerang pattern: small dots under each eye, then dotted around the periphery of each eye in the shape of a boomerang.

Have you found a concealer that you love?

  1. Mac Prolongwear concearler in NW20 is my favorite concealer EVER. It covers, brightens, and blends so easily. Can't go a day without it or my Mac Shaping Powder in "Emphasize". They go hand-in-hand for me.

  3. I love this post! As a mom of a 8 month old, concealer is still must even though she is now sleeping through the night. Lots of catching up on sleep (if there is such a thing) before concealer can be used less. I have been using YSL Touché for about a year and half now (since I wasn't able to sleep well during pregnancy) and I love it because it brightens the eye. However, the price tag is quite hefty and I will definitely have to check out the other options that you posted.

  4. Once you boomerang dot it on, do you blend with your ring finger or use a brush? I really need to start consistent use of concealer. I'm a pediatric nurse who works overnights...you cannot imagine my under eyes! ;)

    1. Hi Susan, I usually blend with my ring finger of my non-dominant hand (left, for me). Hope that helps!!

  5. I use a Hard Candy under eye concealer/brightener from Wal-Mart. It's one of my favorite products ever.

  6. No kiddos yet (21, three jobs, and married is enough for now :P) but I am slightly obsessed with the Benefit Lemon-aid color-correcting concealer and Boi-ing concealer combo over UD Primer Potion. All three are shy of $20 each but last forever (I usually don't repurchase products but have purchased all three more than one occasion over the years.

  8. I love Tarte's. It does not move but also isn't too heavy...I hate putting on anything uber heavy in the am.

  9. Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer is the drug store response to the YSL Touche Eclat. For just $6.99, I decided to give it a try before plunking down $50 for the YSL. And I LOVE it. I wear the nude shade for every day, but also purchased the ivory shade to use for highlighting:)

  11. I was having some issues with concealer & went to Sephora back in December for some help. The girl there was SO helpful, & came up with a Benefit Stay Don't Stray Primer, Benefit Boi-ing Concealer, & Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder combination that works wonders! I highly recommend all of these products!

  12. Amen! Concealer for the win! I've been using Bobbi Brown's corrector and Maybelline's Age Rewind and really liking them both. We need to teach these girls to work the camera STAT.

  13. I'm glad you posted this! No matter how much water I drink or sleep I get, I still always have those bags under my eyes. I'm cursed!

  14. BareMinerals Well Rested is my favorite when it comes to brightening my under eye area! Definitely lets me look more awake than I am :) Tarte has a full coverage concealer and I am a fan of it. A little bit goes a long way and it looks so natural!

  15. BareMinerals well rested and Loreal True Color conceler is definitely my two favorites! The first time I tried conceler I purchased "Amazing" brand and it was $28 for a little itty bitty tube! I think it's crazy to spend that much on so little of something! So I resorted to more affordable options and so far so good! :) Thanks for the tips!

  16. Benefit's It's Potent...really is potent. I LOVE IT! It's more of an eye cream that zaps dark circles, so I can use a more natural concealer.
