Place Your Bets - Boy or Girl?

I think since Mr. S and I (okay and a few close friends and family) know the gender, it's time to poll the masses before we announce the sex, (and announce the name!)

Cast your vote now! Will we be basking in BLUE or pining for PINK in October?

If you believe in old wives' tales and don't have a gut feeling, here are a few things to maybe help guide your vote : ) *All the "tales" below were taken from Parenting.com, because I'm a diligent copywriter and source my info like that.

Carrying High or Low?
Honestly, I can't really tell. The bump isn't big enough to get a good handle on this one yet, but it seems to be higher for me. (Apparently, if you carry high, it's a girl; low indicates a boy.)

Morning sickness?
Um, yes. And mid-morning, afternoon, evening and middle-of-the-night sickness, too. According to Parenting.com, moderate-to-severe morning sickness indicates one is carrying a little girl, (though I know a few boy moms who were horribly sick during pregnancy, too.)

Craving sweet or savory?
The old wives' tales say that craving sweet foods can mean a little girl is on the way, while salty or savory foods indicate you'll be buying blue. I've definitely been craving more salty and savory. In fact, anything remotely sweet makes me horribly nauseous, even at 16+ weeks.

Chinese birth chart?
The Chinese birth chart told us boy.

Skin quality?
I've been free of any weird breakouts or skin issues, which according to Parenting.com, can indicate a girl. Apparently, little boys give their mamas nice, clear skin. Mine has been pretty clear and really smooth!

Heart rate?
This baby has always had a higher heart rate, beginning at 176, then dropping to 159 around week 13, then back up to 165 last week at my 16 week appointment. The powers that be say that a girl typically carries a higher heart rate (above 150), and a boy carries a lower.

Again, I really didn't put any stock into any of these "signs" before we found out the gender, but it's super fun to play along : )

WHAT'S YOUR VOTE?!

  2. I had pretty much the same symptoms you have. Sick all the time, hated sweets. Lower heart rate. Pretty much everything pointing to boy but I now have a beautiful girl. I say girl

  3. I would LOVE to see the outfits for a little girl but I'm thinking you have a little blonde fella on the way! Can't wait to find out the gender AND the name. :)

  4. I'm going with boy - just because your 'symptoms' sound just like mine did and mine ended up being a boy! My husband thought for sure it was a girl since the heartbeat was always high and I was constantly nauseous...But nope! Boy it is. Can't wait to find out!!!!:)

  5. I'm going to guess girl! I am a month ahead of you (due Sept. 17th) and my husband and I are NOT finding out (it's our first as well). It totally goes against my planning nature, but we like the surprise factor. And it's definitely saving me money! I'd be a buying fool if I knew already!

When you put registry lists together or get recommendations on things, please post! It can be overwhelming looking at strollers, car seats, etc. Wears me out!

  7. I'm guessing a BOY since you were able to find out so early. We found out at 13 weeks that Baby # 3 was a boy. I've been told that it's easier to tell early with a boy (for obvious reasons) :) Either way, YAY for the great news you got on your sweet baby's health!! That's always the most important thing (I know this from experience, too!) Congratulations, can't wait to hear the big reveal!

  11. I think it's a boy...only because of the fact that you found out earlier than normal. Usually, that only happens with a boy! #teamblue

  16. I've gotta vote boy. I've had friends who have had multiple pregnancies resulting in the same gender (two boys, two girls, etc) and their pregnancies have been polar opposite, so I'm just going to have to go with the Chinese calendar ;-) It's been right for me both times! And, I'm partial, but I LOVE having a boy (and soon to be 2)!

  26. I'm going w/ girl only b/c of the heart rate. I've been pregnant with three girls and none of the other "wife tales" that you mentioned were true with any of my pregnancies. Although, my gut instinct says boy, b/c of heart rate, i'm going w/ girl.

  27. Boy! I actually had all the same wives tales as you, except the only thing I could keep down was sweets until I was 22 weeks. Thank God for Zofran. We decided to be surprised. It came out a boy, so I am guessing boy!

  28. Boy! All wives tales and symptoms pointed to boy for me. :) His heart rate hovered around 145 though. :)

  29. I really think it is a boy, but I know either way this baby is going to be loved!

  30. I think boy! I just had a girl so would absolutely love to see your fashion ideas for a little girl, but I'm still guessing boy!

  31. I'm 36 weeks with a boy. I knew it was a boy very early on (mothers intuition), but I did all those old wives tail tests.. I have to say, they don't mean anything. Its like reading your horoscope - you can make anything sound about relatable.

I think youre having a boy... Just a guess - not based on anything other than that I can see you carrying around a cute lil boy. :)

  32. Everything sounds like my pregnancy and I have a beautiful 6 month old girl, so I'm guessing GIRL!! www.cpartain.blogspot.com

  33. I'm going with GIRL! I always wish for people to have girls, so it's probably actually a boy! Either way, healthy + happy count more than if I'm right or wrong!

  34. Once I finally had a bump, I carried high...right up until delivery. (I am only 5'4" with a short torso, so high was really the only place for baby). And I had 24/7 nausea until 6 months and back again around 8.5 months. And I had a baby BOY! His heart rate was around 170 at the first appointment at 6 weeks and then was consistently in the 150s from there on out.

My mom had two girls - not sick at all with the first and miserable through the first trimester with the second.

My guess is 50% chance baby is a boy and 50% chance baby is a girl! Either way they'll be super sweet and tons of fun :)
